Renee Vaughan believes county government should plan ahead, spend taxpayer dollars responsibly, protect public safety, preserve local control, and make decisions with the long-term interests of Delaware County residents in mind.

As Genoa Township Trustee and President of the Delaware County Township Association, Renee has firsthand experience with issues affecting our communities, including roads, infrastructure, public safety, zoning, annexation, local government finances, and responsible growth.

As County Commissioner, Renee will bring that local experience to the county level.

RESPONSIBLE GROWTH
Growth is inevitable. Poorly planned growth is not.

Delaware County continues to experience significant growth. Renee believes growth should be responsibly planned so that infrastructure and public services can keep pace.

​

Development decisions can affect roads, traffic, utilities, emergency services, schools, surrounding property owners, and the character of our communities.

​

Renee believes those making development decisions need to consider the infrastructure impacts of growth. Roads, utilities, public safety, and other infrastructure should be planned ahead of development rather than constantly trying to catch up afterward.

​

She will work with townships, cities, villages, county departments, schools, businesses, and residents to encourage thoughtful long-term planning.

Government should live within its means.

Renee believes taxpayers deserve a county government that spends wisely and provides value for the people it serves.

As a township trustee, Renee has firsthand experience balancing community needs with available resources. She believes county government should take the same approach: establish priorities, evaluate spending carefully, and plan for the future.

​

County commissioners have responsibility for county budgeting, appropriating, purchasing, and taxing decisions.

​

Renee will advocate for:

  • Responsible and balanced budgeting.

  • Careful review of county spending and staffing.

  • Transparency in financial decisions.

  • Eliminating unnecessary waste.

  • Smart investments in essential services and infrastructure.

  • Protecting Delaware County's strong financial position and AAA bond ratings.

  • Responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars.

 

Delaware County's recent budgets have included investments in roads, bridges, public safety, and other services while maintaining its AAA bond ratings. Renee believes maintaining that financial strength should remain an important consideration when making future budget decisions.

ROADS & INFRASTRUCTURE
Plan ahead instead of playing catch-up.

Renee understands firsthand how infrastructure decisions affect local communities.

As a Genoa Township Trustee, she has worked with township officials and the Roads and Bridge Director on maintaining and improving local roads and determining how to responsibly fund those needs.

​

At the county level, Renee will focus on long-term infrastructure planning and coordination among the county and local governments.

​

Her priorities include:

  • Maintaining and improving county roads and bridges.

  • Planning infrastructure needs before development occurs.

  • Coordinating with townships, cities, and villages.

  • Making responsible investments based on long-term priorities.

 

County government already plays a significant role in transportation and infrastructure investment.

PUBLIC SAFETY
Safe communities require strong public safety services.

Renee supports law enforcement, first responders, emergency communications, and the county services that help keep residents safe.

She believes public safety should be treated as an essential responsibility of government and that county leaders need to plan for the personnel, facilities, equipment, and infrastructure necessary to support those services.

 

Renee will work to:

  • Support law enforcement and first responders.

  • Maintain strong emergency services.

  • Plan for public safety needs as the county grows.

  • Make responsible investments in emergency communications and services.

  • Work with local governments and public safety agencies.

 

Public safety is a significant part of the county budget. 

LOCAL CONTROL

Renee believes local communities understand their own needs best.

Her experience in Genoa Township has shown her the importance of listening to residents and respecting the role of township, city, and village governments.

Renee will strengthen communication between county government and local communities while respecting each level of government's responsibilities.

  • Respecting the authority of townships, cities, and villages.

  • Working collaboratively rather than imposing unnecessary county-level solutions.

  • Giving communities a voice in decisions that affect them.

  • Understanding the difference between county responsibilities and local responsibilities.

Renee believes government works best when elected officials are accessible, transparent, and accountable.

As a trustee and community leader, she has made listening to residents an important part of her approach to public service.

As Commissioner, Renee will support:

  • Clear communication about county decisions.

  • Transparent budgeting and spending.

  • Public access to information.

  • Accountability for county government decisions.

  • Listening to residents, businesses, and local government officials.

  • Explaining not only what decisions are made, but why.

 

The responsibilities of a county commissioner require working with other elected officials, county departments, and local governments. Delaware County itself describes listening to citizens and other elected officials and building consensus as important parts of the commissioner's role.

PLANNING FOR DELAWARE

Leadership means looking beyond the next budget cycle.

Delaware County's growth requires county leaders to think beyond today's challenges.

Renee believes the county should continually evaluate what will be needed five, ten, and twenty years from now, from roads and infrastructure to public safety, county services, and financial planning.

 

Her approach is simple:

Renee will bring her experience as a township trustee, educator, and countywide township leader to the Board of Commissioners and work with local leaders throughout Delaware County to plan for the future.

Renee brings experience from the level of government closest to residents.

​

As a Genoa Township Trustee, she has dealt firsthand with roads, infrastructure, zoning, public safety, budgets, annexation, development and state mandates.

​

As President of the Delaware County Township Association and a Director on the Ohio Township Association Board, she has worked with township leaders across Delaware County and throughout Ohio.

As an educator, she spent 15 years working with students and families in Indiana and Pennsylvania.

​

She understands that effective leadership requires listening, preparation, accountability, and the willingness to work with others.
